自発的にコレクティブを運営し、オフサイトな場所にてイベントを主催してきたエーテルが12/22、『Reclaim the city （街を取り戻す）』をモットーに、渋谷のザ・チャラ箱Club Camelotにて、ベルギー、イスラエル/パレスチナ＊、韓国からそれぞれ『シティー』を代表するプロデューサー・DJを招き、クリスマスパーティーを開催する。
今年の夏頃にTOKYO WEEKENDERで「Queer clubbing moves behind Ni-chome 東京のクィア・クラビング、二丁目を超えて」という記事に、「コンセプチュアルにクィア」という枠でエーテルが取り上げられた。「イベントを行う際にレギュラーの場所があるなら、なぜそこを選ぶのか」という質問に対してオーガナイザーは、「場所は特定していない。なぜなら生きている中で何も定まってるものは無いし、自分の一部を毎回違う場所に持っていって、毎回違う探求ができるようにしたいから」と答える。
社会人になってから、クラブ以外のところにも出くわすことが多くなり、「シーン」にまつわる色々なことに関心を置く時間が減ることで、より「生活」が膨らんでいく。大学時代まで日常だった特定の文化に身を置くことで所属するコミュニティの感覚も行き当たりばったりになって、よく知らない行き先でいかに楽しめるかを考えることが多くなった。
いわゆるチャラ箱というのは、クラブ・シーンのポリティカルコンパスで考えると右寄りの権力主義の角に位置する。居馴染むことが難しい場所でアイロニカルに楽しむ時もあれば、今回はあえて自分たちが主催することで、「自分たちの場所」としての体験を作り、街を取り戻すことにチャレンジしてみたい。

＊今回Etherではイスラエル人のアーティストshyweekをブッキングするにあたり、『イスラエル/パレスチナ』という表記をあえて選んでいます。イスラエルによるガザの虐殺に対して、現在世界中がデモ、募金、政治家への呼びかけ、教育的なイベントなど、行動できる手段がたくさんある中で、いかに現状をそのまま理解し、（現時点では）停戦を一区切りとしてみなさないことが必要とされています。イスラエルはパレスチナを塗りつぶすように領土、生活を奪い、何十年にも渡り支配、虐殺行為を行ってきました。イスラエルというアイデアの元にshyweekが生まれ育ち、彼はイスラエルが行なっているパレスチナ支配に反対し、主宰のレーベルの売り上げを Physicians for Human Rights(PHR)に募金、パレスチナ支配に反対するプロテストに参加することなどで立場を示してきました。彼のこれらのアクションを知った上で、イスラエルで生まれ育ったことを理由にブッキングをキャンセルすることは不当であり、イスラエル人として現在の情勢に関して意見が求められることの了承を得た上でブッキングを続行することにしました。ガザやウェスト・バンクで起きているジェノサイド行為や支配に同じく反対する意志を持っていても、その人の背景の複雑さに目を背けることはできない場合もあると深く感じています。
これを機に、パレスチナと連帯することを前提とし、イスラエル政府の行為を強く非難するとともに、より複合的な目線で自分のスタンスに確信を持てるよう、コレクティブとして東京のシーンに働きかけ、今まで通りに一緒に学んで成長できるスペースの提供を中心に活動を続けていきたいと考えています。
This is a statement regarding the booking of the Israeli artist shyweek for our party on 22nd December.
Ether as a collective in Tokyo, Japan, has always incorporated a political voice in our organization of events. Now, in Tokyo, protests, educational events, and translated infographics organized by volunteers, have brought light to the situation in Gaza and the West Bank for the general public without political background, with people showing solidarity with Gaza. We felt that given the nationality of shyweek we should clarify his stance on the situation and make clear on our own stance. In the discussion with the artist shyweek, he communicated his political stance against the occupation/apartheid of Palestine by Israel, and his continuous donation to Physicians for Human Rights(PHR) – a humanitarian aid organization, as well as his participation in anti-occupation protests since 2021. We see here, again, that people who act against the ongoing Gaza genocide and Palestine occupation have various and complex backgrounds. After this became clear for us, we came to believe that it would be discriminatory to cancel someone’s booking solely based on where they were born and raised. Through a series of discussions with the artist shyweek and the flyer artist gombaxxx, we decided to go ahead with the booking and present his current residence as ‘Israel/Palenstine’.
We live in a place where political movement doesn’t cut directly into people’s lives, but it doesn’t mean we cannot take action. For the organization of this event on 22nd December, we aim to show support for the Free Palestine movement, and aspire to keep making a space for how we as a community can learn and grow together beyond the club landscape.
