ベルリン芸術大学（Universität der Künste Berlin）、通称UdK。総合芸術大学である同校のファッションデザイン学科では、これまでヴィヴィアン・ウェストウッドやステファン・シュナイダーが教壇に立ち、ジュリアン・ジゲルリ（Julian Zigerli）をはじめ才能あるファッションデザイナーたちを輩出してきた。日々切磋琢磨するデザイナーたちの最終コレクションが披露される場として、毎年10月にファッションショー「SCHAU」が開催される。大学内に留まらずマガジンとの共同プロジェクトを展開し、2016年は『Novembre Magazine』、2017年は『i-D Germany』が指揮をとってきた。今年は昨年創刊したばかりの新進気鋭『Gruppe Magazine』が大抜擢。ヴィジュアルでのアプローチを強化すべく、同大学のヴィジュアルコミュニケーション学科と初めてコラボレーションするなど、新時代の幕開けを感じる年となった。伝統と多様性を重視した自由な教育方針の元、思うがままにクリエイションする学生たちの生き生きとした姿と可能性が作品から溢れ出している。
Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin), or more commonly, UDK. The fashion design department at this art university has invited Vivienne Westwood and Stephan Schneider as professors, and raised some of the most talented fashion designers including Julian Zigerli. As the setting for these hard-working designers to display their final collections, every October the university hosts a fashion show – SCHAU. The event has expanded beyond the university community and partners with magazines for project collaborations. In the past, Novembre Magazine (2016), i-D Germany (2017) have taken charge. This year, Gruppe Magazine, an up-and-coming magazine who just launched last year, was selected. This year opened doors to the newer generation. The visual approaches were strengthened and for the first time, they collaborated with the visual communications department at UDK. The works of the students that create however they want in an education system that emphasizes freedom, tradition and diversity expressed the students’ vibrancy and the endless opportunities awaiting them.

荒々しいテクノをBGMに現代のファッショントレンドにおける衝突をアイロニックに表現したオープニングパフォーマンス『der große Fuck off』を皮切りにスタート。強烈なインパクトを残したパフォーマンスの興奮覚めやらぬうちに、コレクションを纏ったモデルたちが颯爽と続く。今年は特にメンズコレクションの才能が抜きん出ていた。そこで注目を集めた2組のデザイナーをピックアップ。ユートピアであるこの街の裏も表も理解した彼らは、自身のコレクションとベルリンのファッションシーンをしっかりと見つめていた。
The show opened with an ironic opening performance (der große Fuck off) expressing the clashes among fashion trends, accompanied by a violent techno BGM. Before anyone could calm down from the impacts of the intense performance, the models wearing the collection come out dashingly, one after another. This year, the talent of the men’s collection stood out in particular. We then picked up two designers who received recognition. The designers who have come to understand the inside and outside of this Utopian city firmly represented their own collections and Berlin’s fashion scene.
Momme Ostendorf『Me & Margarethe』
デンマーク女王への賛美歌という優雅さにデザイナーのジェンダーに対する思いを調合した世界観はお見事。同じ眼鏡をかけたモデルたちが続くコンセプチュアルなショーはまさに白昼夢という言葉がふさわしい。モデル経験のあるデザイナーがトップバッターを務めたことも、このコレクションに大きな意味をもたらした。
The world created by blending the elegancy of the hymn to the Queen of Denmark and thoughts on gender is outstanding. The conceptual show walked by models wearing the same glasses is like a daydream. The fact that designers with modeling experience opened the show also gave this collection a special meaning.
ーーコレクションについて教えてください。
Momme「僕のMAコレクションは、デンマーク女王マルグレーテ2世（Margrethe II）への賛美歌。ミューズである彼女の世界観をメンズコレクションに落とし込むことで、個人的な称賛だけを楽しむ世界を作り上げたんだ。共通点の多い僕ら2人の白昼夢をね。子供の頃に女王になりたかった僕もいまでは大人。まだマルグレーテ2世の世界に心を惹かれたままでどうにもできないんだ。美しいオーダー、セレモニー、おそろい、すべてが1つのことを強調しているこれらの服装を称賛してる。女王と僕、それぞれの宇宙を共生したい、若い男性のための華やかなコレクションをね。でも、ジェンダー・ベンディングやドラッグのような面に反対して、男らしさを失わずに自分の女らしさの限界を定義したいと思った。個人的にドレスだと心地よくないし、仮装のように感じる。性別のラインをぼかすのではなく、むしろそこに注目したんだ。男らしさが好きだし、女らしさは憧れる。どちらも手放したくないんだ。今回のコレクションの一番大事な部分で、僕が女王を称える主な理由が、古い職人技と伝統の更新。デンマーク女王は古い伝統と彼女のモダンなテイストを組み合わせて、希少な工芸を活かし続るとともに世間にも公開してるからね」
ーー好きなデザイナー、アーティストはいますか？
Momme「シンディ・シャーマン（Cindy Sherman）」
ーーUdKでファッションを学ぶ強みとは何でしょうか？ ベルリンのファッションシーンについてどう思いますか？
Momme「UdKが学生を強制することはないんだ。各学生のパーソナルな強みをを定義して、背中を押してくれる。僕の経験上、UdKに同じような学生は2人いないかな。みんなそれぞれ違うし、とてもクリエイティヴでのびのびとした雰囲気を作り出してるよ。だからUdKはベルリンのクリエイティヴ・シーンにおける長所と課題の両方をとても正確に反映してる。もしやりたいことを何でもできて、ルールに押し付けられることもなければ、ベルリンって最高だし多分ユニークだよね。でも、地に足がつかないまま少しでも無意味にすることだってできる。ベルリンで迷子になるのはとても簡単だよ。たぶんこれがファッションシーンがまだまだスローな理由でもあるかな。でも、それと同時に簡単にクリエイティヴになれて同じ考えを持つ人々に出会える場所なんだ。新しいことを始められるけど、何も手助けされないかな」
ーーPlease let us know about your collection.
“My MA collection is an ode to the danish Queen, Her Majesty Margrethe II of Denmark. Taking her as a muse and translating her world into a men’s collection, I create a world that thrives only on personal admiration. A daydream, where the two of us have a lot in common.
As a child I wanted to become Queen one day. Now I’m grown up. The fascination for the world of Margrethe II still lingers in me, I can’t help it. I admire the beautiful order, the ceremonial clothing, the matching outfits, which all underline one thing.
I wanted to create a symbiosis of the Queen’s universe and my own one. A festive collection for young men. But opposed to aspects like gender-bending or drag, I wanted to define the limits of my own femininity, not loosing the masculine side of things. Personally, I would feel uncomfortable in a dress, it would feel like a masquerade to me. I did not try to blur the lines of sexes – rather pointing them out – I like masculinity and I admire femininity, I wouldn’t want to give any of them up. One of the most important aspects of my collection and the main reason why I admire Margrethe II. of Denmark, is the renewal of old craftsmanship and tradition.”
ーーDo you have any favorite designer or artist?
“Cindy Sherman.”
ーー What is the best thing to study about fashion at UdK? What do you think about fashion scene in Berlin?
“At UdK no common signature is forced upon you, I feel that the aim is rather to define and encourage each students personal strengths. In my experience there are not two students at UdK who are alike, we are all very different from each other and that creates a very creative and broad atmosphere. That way UdK reflects the Berlin creative scene quite accurately, both in its advantages and challenges. If you can do whatever you want and you’re not forced to follow the rules, thats great and maybe unique to Berlin, but it can also leave you floating and a bit aimless. It’s easy to get lost in Berlin, perhaps thats the reason why the fashion scene is still moving comparably slow, but at the same time its a place where you can easily be creative and meet likeminded people. You can start something new, but it won’t be handed to you.”

Antonia Schreiter『Die a happy man』
メンズウエアの特性を活かし、伝統をベースにバランスよくスポーツ、ストリートを加えたコレクション。素材感と絶妙なネオンカラーの配色は彼女らしいユニークさを十分に発揮し、見ているこちらをわくわくさせる。H&Mデザインアワード2019のセミファイナリストにも選出され、すでに業界から注目を集める若手デザイナーの1人だ。
The collection brought out the characteristics of menswear by adding and balancing sports and streetwear on a base of tradition. The fabrics and exquisite neon color scheme greatly demonstrated a uniqueness that was characteristic of the designer, and excited the viewers. She was also chosen as a semi-finalist for the 2019 H&M Design Awards, and is a young designer who is given much attention to in the industry.
ーーコレクションについて教えてください。
Antonia「わたしのコレクションは祖父のワードローブに基づいてる。祖父のルックとトラディショナルな容姿が好きなの。それで伝統的なメンズウエアのテーラリングにスペシャルフォーカスすることにした。ツイードや重めのウール素材で制作することが大好きだから、わたしが長年集めてきたこれらの素材をスポーツウエアがファッション業界を支配する新しい文化、時間、社会に落とし込むことしたの。古い伝統とその価値を結びつけようとガーメントたちの大部分に刺繍を施すとき、ハンドクラフトのユニークな作品にフォーカスすることが主な目標だったわ。ユース・カルチャー、アーバン（ベルリン）ダンディを生み出すネオンカラーのディティールやスポーツ要素と対象的にね」
ーー好きなデザイナー、アーティストはいますか？
Antonia「ドリス・ヴァン・ノッテン（Dories van Noten）！彼を尊敬してるの。彼の作品はユニークで完璧だわ」
ーーUdKでファッションを学ぶ強みとは何でしょうか？
Antonia「UdKはとても実験的に働きかけるし、たくさんのワークショップを開催してる。クリエイティヴィティと開発には限界がないし、どうアーティスティックに取り組むかなんて関係ないの」
ーーベルリンのファッションシーンについてどう思いますか？
Antonia「いつも変化するし、人々がどう服を着こなしてるのか見るのは本当にエキサイティング。ファッション・ピープルには2つのタイプがあるわ。1つはトレンドに乗っかるだけ、もう1つはユニークね」
ーーPlease let us know about your collection.
“My collection is based on the wardrobe of my grandfather. I am fascinated by his look and traditional appearance. Thats why I chose to work with a special focus on the traditional menswear tailoring. I love to work with tweed and heavy wool fabrics so I tried to transform these which I collected over years into a new culture, time and society where sportswear is dominating the fashion industry. The focus on handcrafted unique pieces was the main goal when I started to embroider the majority of the garments to connect the old traditions with its values in contrast with the youth culture, neon colored details and sports elements to create a different kind of an urban (Berlin) Dandy.”
ーー Do you have any favorite designer or artist?
“Dries van Noten! I just admire him. His work is unique and flawless.”
ーー What is the best thing to study about fashion at UdK?
“The UdK works very experimental and offers many workshops. There is no limit in your creativity and development and it doesn’t matter how artistic you want to work.”
ーー What do you think about fashion scene in Berlin?
“It changes all the time, its really exciting to see how the people dress. There are two types of fashion people: one is just jumping on trends and the other one is unique.”
