ユカ・ツルノ・ギャラリーでは、松川朋奈の個展「Blind」を2017年5月20日（土）から6月17日（土）まで開催する。本展では、女性たちへのインタビューをもとに構成した新作の絵画とともに、鏡を使った新たなインスタレーション作品が発表される。
松川は一貫して、傷ついたハイヒールや脱ぎ捨てられた服、身体の傷など、日常生活に残された痕跡に表れる人間性や人間の内面に関心を寄せている。松川に特徴的な写実的な絵画は、一般的にあまりよくない印象を持つ傷ともいえる痕跡を、フラットで美しい表面上に再構成することで別の価値観への転換を試みてきた。近年は、松川と同世代の女性たちへのインタビューを重ねながら、その中で印象に残ったフレーズを作品の主題およびタイトルとし、絵画にとどまらず、鏡を使ったインスタレーションなど新たな表現方法にも挑戦している。
本展覧会は、六本木クロッシング(森美術館、2016年)で発表した作品群に引き続き、都会に住む女性へのインタビューがもとになっている。下着の跡や化粧くずれ、コーヒーの染みなどの形跡に象徴されるように、彼女たちは一見すると孤独で失望の人生の中にいると認識されがちだ。しかし、インタビューを通して松川が感じたことは、その人生を生きる一人一人が、目の前の人生に直面しながらも、生きる意味を探求し人生への希望を持ち続けていること。「盲目」という意味であるタイトル「Blind」は、彼女たちの「内側」と社会からの視線である「外側」に大きな隔たりがあり、お互いに盲目的に存在しているという意味が込められてる。
また、個人においても「内側」と「外側」の視線がある。描かれた人物たちの外見ではなく内面を捉えようとしてきた松川の絵画と同様に、新たなシリーズとして発展してきている鏡のインスタレーションは、その鏡に映る鑑賞者自身もその視線が交錯する空間へと投げ込まれる。本展において松川は、「内側」と「外側」の境界を巡って、その盲目さを受け入れながらも、内側と外側を行き来し、あるいは反転するような出会いを生み出すことを試みる。
作家プロフィール
1987年愛知県生まれ。2011年多摩美術大学絵画学科油画専攻卒業。近年の展示に「六本木クロッシング 2016展：僕の身体、あなたの声」（森美術館、東京）、「シェルアーティストセレクション」（2013年、国立新美術館、東京）、「Artist Meets 倉敷vol.12 松川朋奈」（2016年、大原美術館、岡山）など。ホルベインスカラシップ（2010年）、福沢一郎記念賞（2010年）を受賞。作品は大原美術館、森美術館、高橋コレクションなどに収蔵されている。

Yuka Tsuruno Gallery is pleased to present “Blind”, Tomona Matsukawa’s solo exhibition from Saturday, May 20 to Saturday, June 17, 2017. In this exhibition, Matsukawa will exhibit new group of paintings based on her interview with women, as well as a new installation piece using mirrors.
Matsukawa is consistently interested in human nature and inner life of people visible in the residual signs of everyday life, such as damaged high heels, thrown off clothes or scars on a body. Through her characteristically realistic paintings, Matsukawa has been attempting to convert the scar-like marks that are commonly considered to be disreputable to a different set of values by reconfiguring them on her flat and beautiful painterly surfaces. In recent years, she conducts multiple interviews with women of her own generation, and uses memorable phrases from these conversations as the subjects and titles of her works, which includes not only paintings but also new methods of expression such as an installation with mirrors.
The works presented in this exhibition are based on the interviews with women living in big cities, following the works of the same theme exhibited at Roppongi Crossing (Mori Art Museum, 2016). As symbolized in the traces such as underwear marks, spoiled makeups and coffee stains, these women tend to be regarded at the first glance as living in loneliness and disappointment. However, Matsukawa felt during the interviews that each woman living such a life still explores the meaning of her life and remains hopeful while facing her lot. As indicated in the exhibition title “Blind”, the exhibited works represent the big gulf between the “interior” of these women and the “exterior” of the outside world’s gaze, and how they are mutually blind to each other.
Moreover, there are “internal” and “external” views of every individual. Much like her paintings that strive to capture not the outward appearance but the internal life of the depicted persons, Matsukawa’s new series of mirror installations throw the viewers, reflected in the mirrors, into the space where these views crisscross with one another. In this exhibition, Matsukawa explores the boarder between “inside” and “outside”, shifts between them, and aims to produce an encounter that may reverse these two states, while accepting their mutual blindness.
Artist Profile
Tomona Matsukawa (b.1987, Aichi) graduated from Tama Art University in 2011, having specialized in oil painting. Her recent exhibitions include Roppongi Crossing 2016: My Body, Your Voice (Mori Museum, Tokyo), Shell Artist Selection (The National Art Center, Tokyo, 2013) and Artist Meets Kurashiki vol.12 Tomona Matsukawa (Ohara Museum of Art, Okayama, 2016). She was awarded the Fukazawa Ichiro Memorial Award (2011) and The 25th Holbein Scholarship (2010). Her works were added to the collection of Ohara Museum and Mori Museum as well as Takahashi Collection.
