KENSEI YABUNOの代表作ともいえる黒と白のハンドペインティングをまとった立体作品は、日々その姿を変容させ、増殖を続ける。本展ではこれらの立体作品に加え、木炭やパステルで描いた新作のドローイングも展示。フラットなキャンバスと画用紙に描かれたさまざまなモチーフは、連想から生まれたイメージの集積ともいえる。「頭で考え、言葉にすることを拒絶する代わりに生まれたのが、僕の作品」と作家自身が話すように、衝動から生まれた作品群は必見。

PROFILE
1975年、北海道生まれ。イギリスのCamberwell College of ArtsでFine Artを専攻。limart、THE LAST GALLERY、新宿伊勢丹などでペインティング、立体作品を発表。『アイデア』や『vice』、『DAZED & CONFUSED』など国内外の雑誌にも作品を提供する。また、BIGACTIVEがディレクションを担当したBECKのアルバム『The information』（2006年）および同アルバム収録のシングル曲『CELLPHONE’S DEAD』のジャケットに作品を提供し、「D&AD AWARD」を受賞。COMME des GARÇONSの2011年春夏ウィメンズコレクションに、作品がテキスタイルとして採用された。最近の展示に、HYSTERIC GLAMOUR SHIBUYAにて行われた写真家 大沼茂一との作品展『WHY YOU』（2019年）がある。

“Untitled”
Black and white painted iconic intricate sculptures by Kensei Yabuno are transformative and multiplying for eternity. Connecting with dynamic sculptures, new pastel and charcoal drawings on flat canvas and paper will be revealed in the show. The various motifs expressed within the drawings are associated with images that outline the elusive concept. As Kensei states: “My work reflects the refusal of overthinking and putting it into words,” his impulsive body of works, which turned himself inside out is on display in the “Untitled” show.

KENSEI YABUNO × PORTER Capsule Collection will be launched to celebrate the solo-exhibition. New and limited bags of 5 models are coming with Kensei’s fine pattern thorough printed on nylon fabric.
Kensei Yabuno, is a Tokyo-based artist born in 1975, Hokkaido. After majored in BFA at the Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, went on to pursue an artistic career introducing sculptures and paintings at the gallery limart, THE LAST GALLERY, and Isetan Shinjuku.
The visual works has been featured on Japanese leading graphic/design journal “IDEA” and the international magazines such as “vice” and “DAZED & CONFUSED.” The cover designs for BIGACTIVE-directed BECK’s Album 『The Information』(2006) and the album’s single 『CELLPHONE’S DEAD』 have been awarded for “D&AD AWARD.” Kensei’s intuitive approach reaches in the realm of music and fashion, as the artwork have been applied as the textile in the COMME des GARÇON SS Women collection in 2011. The latest exhibition is『WHY YOU』(2019) at HYSTERIC GLAMOUR SHIBUYA held in collaborate with a photographer, Shigekazu Onuma.
